Load profile check: peaks, batteries and CO₂ from your 15-minute data

Upload your site's load profile and see right away where the peaks are, what a battery changes and how your consumption lines up with the grid mix and the wholesale price hour by hour. Independent, no sign-up, the file stays in your browser.

CSV or Excel export from your grid or metering operator, 15-minute or hourly values, ideally a full year.

The file never leaves your browser. All calculations run on your computer.

No load profile yet? How to request it

Sites with interval metering (RLM, usually above 100,000 kWh a year) have a 15-minute load profile. The metering operator, usually the local grid operator, provides it on request, often in a customer portal. The metering point ID is on your electricity bill.

Subject: Load profile metering point DE…

Dear Sir or Madam,

please send us the load profile (15-minute values) for metering point DE… for the last twelve months as a CSV file.

Thank you and kind regards

What the check does not replace

The figures show where a closer look pays off.

  • Demand charge and peak-load time windows are in your grid operator's price sheet and decide the savings.
  • Whether atypical grid use under Section 19(2) StromNEV applies depends on these time windows.
  • PV self-consumption, trading and balancing services change a battery's business case.

Frequently asked questions about load profiles

What is a load profile?

A load profile is the series of measured power at a metering point, in 15-minute values for interval-metered (RLM) sites, about 35,000 values a year. It gives consumption, peak load and full-load hours.

When does a site have an interval meter (RLM)?

In Germany, electricity above 100,000 kWh a year is metered in 15-minute intervals (Section 55(1) MsbG). Below that, grid operators use standard load profiles; a real load profile then only exists with a smart metering system.

How do I get my load profile from the grid operator?

From the metering operator, usually the local grid operator, with the metering point ID from your electricity bill. Many provide it in a customer portal, otherwise as a CSV by email. A request template is above under “No load profile yet?”.

Which files can the check read?

CSV exports from grid and metering operators with 15-minute or hourly values, in kW or kWh, with date and time in one or two columns or as a daily matrix. Please save Excel files as CSV. If it does not work, send me the file.

How are full-load hours calculated and why does 2,500 matter?

Annual consumption in kWh divided by the annual peak in kW. German grid operators apply different demand and energy charges depending on whether a metering point is below or above 2,500 full-load hours. Shaving the peak raises the hours and can cross this threshold. The Federal Network Agency is currently revising the grid fee system (AgNes); what applies from 2029 is not yet settled.

What counts as a load peak?

For grid fees, it is usually the highest 15-minute average in the billing year. A single quarter hour thus sets the demand charge for the whole year. The check shows the highest peaks with time and duration.

How large does a battery for peak shaving need to be?

It depends on how high and how long the peaks are and whether the battery can recharge between them. The check simulates five sizes on your load profile, quarter hour by quarter hour, and shows peak cut, savings and payback.

Can peak shaving work without a battery?

Often, yes: stagger start-ups and shift flexible loads such as cooling, compressed air or charging points out of the peak. Short peaks in the “Highest load peaks” table point to this.

Is my data stored?

No. The file is read and analysed in your browser and not sent to a server. Only if you request the report are your name and email sent to me.

Why does the hourly CO₂ value differ from the annual factor?

The annual factor rates every kilowatt-hour the same. Hourly accounting counts whether you use power when there is a lot of wind and sun in the grid or a lot of coal and gas. The draft revision of Scope 2 in the GHG Protocol proposes exactly this hourly view.
